Students Need to be Illuminated!
Led by educational consultant Rae Shaw, Illumine Systems is a creativity-based educational services company that seeks to further student enlightenment and intellectual growth through artistic methods.
Illumine Systems offers three types of education services to students from elementary to high school: homework help, intellectualism through the arts and personal essay and application review.
Homework Help
Homework. Getting the homework done well and in on-time is a key component to student achievement and success. But we don’t start with just homework; we discover each student’s individual strengths and weaknesses, uncover hidden artistic resources, and work with teachers and parents to help a student get back or stay on track.
Intellectualism Through the Arts Programs
The Intellectualism Through the Arts curriculum is a supplementary program that is developed around specific canons of literature to help students exercise critical thinking and analytical reading skills. Based on previous lessons created and implemented by the program leader during her time as a classroom teacher, we design unique and creative visual and performance art curriculums around selected age-appropriate books that challenge students to gain a deeper understanding of literature, poetry and history. This program is project-based and hands-on and pushes students to go beyond a mere reading of the text. Here the goal is to have students build intellect and talent that will prepare them for college level work; projects include: collage creation, live performance, photo series, etc. This program makes students discerning readers and analytical writers as well as better test takers because they learn not only how to beat the test but how to think beyond it.
Here are some of the workshops we offer: "Show and Don't Tell" Filmmaking Series for Teens, "Words That Inspire" Poetry Collage Program, "Writing My Story" Personal Essay Program for Adults and Teens, "Finding Words, Discovering Voices" Poetry Writing Program for Adults and Teens, "Grammarizing Your Script" scriptwriting program, and more! Personal Essay & Application Review
Little do students realize that something as simple as how they organize and assemble materials for their application can significantly impact how their application is viewed. We offer several one-on-one services to help students prepare personal statements and fine tune their college application submissions. The right college can lead a student to discover capabilities they had not even recognized, and by walking students through the application process, we help students present the best application profile according to their individual skills and talents.
